Favourite love songs by Cliff Richard

When I was young, Cliff Richard was a very big hit in Rhodesia, so I would like to share with you some of my favourite love songs that he sang.

1. Apron strings

This was the very first favourite love song that I sang in public.

2. Dynamite

I love the feeling of enery in the song.

3. Lucky lips

We can all dream of being so lucky.

4. Please don’t tease me

Love can be a hard game to play. Sometimes, you don’t know who you can trust.

5. Move on down the line

I heard this song on a “live” recording on an LP record of Cliff Richard at our neighbour’s house, but unfortunately this recording is cut. But it still feels exciting.

6. It’ll be me

Some of the words in this song are crazy, but it is still very enjoyable to me. There is no way that somebody is going to be on a rocket ship to Mars looking for a girl!

7. Gee wizz it’s you

I still love the enegy of Cliff Richard and the Shadows on their early recordings.

8. Travelin’ light

This is the very first song I heard by Sir Cliff Richard. When we were in Arkansas, the people wanted to know if we knew what was meant by a “whoop and a holler” and it reminded me of this song.

9. When the girl in your arms – my favourite love song by Cliff Richard

This is still such a beautiful song. I guess favourite love songs never really grow old.

10. Livin’ Doll

I think this was one of his biggest hits when I was young. It always reminds me of a girl down the street that played this song at her birthday party.

11. Bachelor Boy

So many girls were crazy about him, that I could never understand why he would sing a song like this.

12. The Young Ones

When I was young, a friend of my mother said that the best days are the school days, and I thought he was crazy. As I look back, I think he was right.

13. Summer Holiday

Sometimes I wish I could roll back the pages of time to our summer holidays when I was a teenager. It was so much fun.

14. All I ask of you

I love the way they do the sea waves in the background. When I first saw this on TV I thought it was fantastic. Thank you Sir Cliff Richard for all the memories and all the favourite love songs.

My own favorite love songs by Don Foster (Songwriter)

Hi. I would like to share with you some of my own favorite love songs that I have written. I was born near Liverpool, England, but my parents took me to Africa when I was about 9 months old. I spent 11 years in Salisbury (now Harare), and 12 years in Bulawayo.

There are also other guys by the name of Don Foster out there who have songs on the internet, so it can be confusing. Over the years I wrote about 200 songs, and I just feel I must share them with the rest of the world. I have never been famous or had a hit song, but I hope the songs mean something to someone. Most of my songs are semi-gospel, but I have also written a few love songs, and a few happy-go-lucky songs.

1. I’m yours

This is one of the few love songs I have written. I wrote it for my wife. My daughter showed me how to put my art over photographs, so I had a lot of fun making this video. I used some old pictures, and drew a few new ones.

2. When you’re in love – My favorite love song – Don Foster (songwriter)

This is one of my few love songs. I have changed this video to pictures with a bluegrass beat.

3. Play with me Daddy

This is based on a dream I had when my son was small. I know a number of people who have lost their sons to car accidents, so this is very real in some people’s lives, and my heartfelt sympathies go out to those parents.

4. Cabin on the hill

One lunch break in Johannesburg, I was walking to the park when this song came to me. I had no paper, so I got my bank balance from an ATM, and scribbled the song on the tiny bit of paper.  I was working with a divorced woman that day, and Swaziland was in my mind as I wrote it. My wife lived in Swaziland before we got married.

5. You stood by me

I wrote this song about my wife, and how she stood by me through all the troubles I experienced when we first came to Canada.

6. Go to Florida

I wrote this song in Germiston, and it was originally called “Go to Durban.” Since I came back to Canada, I have changed a few words.

7. Every day’s a holiday

When we were teenagers, living in Rhodesia, my brother and I went to Margate for a holiday, and that is what this song is based on. I just love being in South Coast Natal on those lovely beaches, and surfing the lovely waves.

8. Isn’t Daddy coming home

Back in the early 70’s when I was a travelling singer, I was invited to supper at some people’s home. The rest of what happened is in the song.

9. When I was young

10. A New Day

This song keeps speaking to my heart, that I must forget the past, and start anew.

11. No more singing the blues

12. Little Boat

This song is based on a vision a man in Pretoria had. I heard his story in about 1971, and later wrote the song.

13. I need You

I actually wrote this song back in 1971, on Ontdekkersweg near the Volle Evangelie Kerk, on the west side of Johannesburg.

14. Don’t you worry

The other day my wife shared with us about the U.S.A. shutdown and the economic meltdown, and it got me so worried. So, the next day I listened to my song again, and decided to re-post it on the youtube. This song brings me a lot of comfort.

15. I carried you

This song is based on a poem I read about the footprints in the sand. It is always such a comfort to me. Rhodesia was a land-locked country, so I guess that is why I love the sea so much.

16. Wider than any ocean

This is a love song to God.

17. Jerusalem I love

To me it was a very holy feeling being in Jerusalem.

18. Blue Galilee

When we were by Galilee, I felt like pitching a tent and living there the rest of my life.

19. Ready?

This is a very important song. It has spoken to my heart many times.

20. The Winning Side

We are in a battle for our souls. God verses the devil.

21. Little Birds

God wants us to be happy.

22. Just one touch

To me this is a very holy song. I still need a big touch from the Holy Spirit.

23. All my troubles

All of us go through troubles, but it is coming out of them that is so hard. The pictures in this song are from British Columbia and Ontario.

24. Like the bird

One sunset in Germiston, I was going for a prayer walk when this song came to me.

25. No condemnation

If ever we sin, we need to come to the Lord and ask forgiveness.

26. Jerusalem I love (with lyrics)

Here is the same song – with words.

27. It was the rapture

One night I had a dream that shook me up real bad, and so the next morning I wrote the song.

28. A New Heart

I have re-done this song using pictures. We all need a new heart. There is so much hate and violence in the world.

29. Prophets

I think this song has an important message.

30. He understands

This is my latest song on youtube. October 9. 2013. Jesus understands how you feel because he has been through all the suffering that you and I have been through. He is now our high priest in heaven, interceeding for you and me.

31. Specialized

Jesus specialized in changing people. No matter what you have done, He is willing to forgive you if you ask Him to. He loves you, and wants you to be saved.

32. No river too wide (with Lyrics)

My wife and sister said they couldn’t hear all the words, so I typed them in.

33. There is healing (in the Name of Jesus)

I wrote this song after my cracked spine got healed back in 1972.

34. Don’t sit on the fence

I wrote this one back in 1966 when I was doing military training in the Rhodesian Air Force. I was travelling in a miliary bus looking out the window at the cows in the field, the other side of the fence.

35. Concrete Jungle

Back in about 1979 we were living in an apartment in Germiston, and I could see the factories by Railway Street pumping smoke into the air, which inspired me to write this song.

36. Jesus, I love You

To me this is a very holy song. Some people don’t like holy songs, and Jesus said we mustn’t cast our pearls before swine.

37. I talked to the Lord

Many years ago I came home from work feeling very depressed. I got on my knees by my bed and poured out my troubles to the Lord. Afterwards, I felt so much better, and wrote the song. Usually when I play the guitar and sing it, I dance around. It gives me such a charge, more than any other song.

38. Jailbreaker

Here is a Bible story in song. Hope you like it.

39. Fluffy

In 1983 I had a dream one night, then the next morning I wrote this. It is my passover song.

40. The Healer is here

Many years ago, we saw many people get healed, and I am constantly praying to see that again.

41. Palm Tree

There are so many people that commit suicide when the stress gets too much. So I hope this song helps somebody.

42. Follow

This is one of the last songs I wrote. “Everyone is special in the eyes of the Lord.”

43. Get off my back

I wrote this song when I was in my early twenties, and it seems like all my life that the devil has been whispering negative things into my mind. Telling me that I am not good enough. He has also used other people to tell me the same things. However, I feel that my songs have a certain amount of merit, even though I am plagued with such negative thoughts. Also, every night I seem to have nightmares. It is like I am in a continual spiritual battle.

44. Don’t worry about him

This song was a very big help in a healing process, because of a problem I went through with a particular man. Then years later, I had a problem with a certain woman, so I lengthened the song to cover both of them. Don’t let other people stop you from following Jesus. We all have to give an account one day.

45. I forgive you

Many times in my life I have had to forgive people for the wrongs they have done to me. As I did the pictures of this videos, it has brought back so many memories. My wife says it is because the devil has wanted to kill me. I think she is right.

46. Jesus, Rose of Sharon

I wrote this song back in the 70’s. As I sing the gospel songs, it leads me into worship, and this is a love song to Jesus.

47. It’s gotta be love

This was the title of my long playing record back in 1972. On the record was the whole band, but on this version, it is just me and the keyboard.

48. Henry

When I wrote this song, the original title was: “Daddy was a hard, drinking man.” Many years later, I have wondered if the title had offended my dad. You see, I wrote the song about a guy we met in King William’s Town back in the 70’s, and I wrote it from the point of view of his children. So anyway, I have changed the title, but I cannot remember the guy’s name, so I have called him Henry. After I had written the song, my wife asked me if I knew that he had planned to commit suicide, but I didn’t know that when I wrote the song.

49. You can’t buy the Holy Spirit

Many rich people want to buy the things of God, but all His gifts are free. We have to pay the price of dedication.

50. Chain the wind

Jesus talked about being born of the Spirit in John chapter 3.

51. I’ll meet you in heaven

Before she died, my mother hugged me and said: “I’ll meet you in heaven.”

52. If you hadn’t told me

This song is based on a true story.

53. A new creature

This is based on a statement in the Bible by Paul: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5,17.

54. Don’t be weary

This song is based on a verse in the Bible that says: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galations 6,9.

I wrote this song back in 1971 after a car cut in front of me on the freeway around Johannesburg.

56. Someone cared

Jesus loves you.

57. What did you do for Me

When I was in my early twenties, I had a dream one night where I stood before the Lord, and the Lord said: “What did you do for Me?” So I replied: “I went to church.” He said: “That wasn’t for me, that was for yourself, you are the one who got a blessing out of it. What did you do for Me?” So I said: “I read the Bible.” The Lord said: “That was for yourself, you are the one who got a blessing out of it. What did you do for Me?” Then it dawned on me that I had never won any souls for Jesus. I went to meetings 7 to 10 times a week. I read the Bible when I was a teenager. I knew hundreds of songs. I even knew most of the numbers off by heart, and what key each song was in, but I had never won any soul for Jesus. So that is what inspired me to ask Margaret to go to church. When she gave her heart to Jesus, her life changed. For the first time, I saw a life change in front of my own eyes, and I later left my job and went out singing for Jesus, and trying to win souls for Him. I also did a comic about Margaret. I can’t remember why I called the comic Top Priority, but I guess it is because being saved is the most important thing in the whole world! Won’t you give your life to Christ today? Comic: Top Priority

58. Woodchopper

I had this vision when I was washing Leo’s feet at a foot washing service in 1982.

59. That’s your mansion

I got inspired to write this song based on a story I heard when I was young, about lady in Rhodesia who had a dream.

60. Do you love Him more than anything?

It is about Abraham. I got inspired to write this song when my son was small.

61. Thank You for the power

Sorry that my recordings are not very good, but I feel I must put my songs out there in case there are some good singers and musicians that are looking for material.

62. Mama’s Prayer

Many years ago as I was on a long trip, I was inspired to write this song based on a story by another singer. Every now and then I would stop at the side of the road and write down the words. At the same time, I felt I was interceding for my son: “The devil can’t have my boy Lord.”

63. Fly High

This song is from my LP which was recorded in 1972.

64. It’s gotta be love (LP recording)

This is from the recording of 1972.

65. I once knew a preacher man

I wrote this song back in the 60’s or 70’s, based on an evangelist I had met. Over the years I have seen a number of preachers leave the ministry through a variety of reasons. Many times I pray that they will come back to preaching the gospel.

66. Vader maak U arms oop

Dear Afrikaans people. Please forgive me if I make mistakes in your language, but I have written a few Afrikaans songs, and feel I must share them with the rest of the world. Maybe there are some good singers out there looking for songs to sing, then they can take it a few steps further. Here is what this song means in English:

Father, open up your arms, here comes your lost son. Give him a big love-hug, he looks so very lonely. With a bag (or pocket) full of money, he went away, looking for pleasure and enjoyment. His clothes were nice and clean, and he walked upright. Now he’s coming back on the mountain road. He looks so skinny and dirty. Give him a big love-hug, he looks so very lonely.

67. Live above

I wrote this song in 1966 when I was in the Rhodesian Air Force flying in a plane from Gwelo to Salisbury.

68. A cloud in the sky

69. A million years

70. God cares for you

71. Don’t speak those words

72. He healed my broken heart

73. Walk in the sunshine

79. A friend of mine

80. I remember You

81. Jesus wants to be number One

82. What shall it profit me?

83. It’s such a beautiful day today

84. Better get right

85. Is there time?

86. Vergewe nou

87. Sunshine is coming on my pathway

I specially made this video with photos of Welland for a contest.

88. Talent contest – “live” video – Sunshine is coming on my pathway

I wasn’t chosen for the contest, but I had a daydream that someone had an accident, and they called me in. That night at 10 pm, the manager phoned and asked me to join the show! To me, it was an appointment made by God. I was hoping they wouldn’t put me on first, and to my relief, they put me on last. It has been such a thrill for me. I was so nervous, and didn’t know what to expect, but I was chosen to be in the semi-finals along with another nine acts.

89. Canada Stands Tall

Three nights after being in the talent competition, I was lying in bed trying to sleep when this song kept coming at me. Eventually I obeyed, and got out of bed, put the light on, and wrote whatever came into my mind. The whole song just flowed from beginning to end. It has never happened like that before, and I believe it was inspired by God! This recording was done “live” in a church service a couple of weeks before the final talent competition.

90. When you’re in love – “live” – talent contest

91. Canada Stands Tall -“live” – Canada 150 Birthday Song

92.  A new heart – Muvizu – fruit on tree

93. Winning side – Muvizu – man on stage

95. Don’t you worry  – Muvizu – man by sea

96. A New Day (with lyrics)

97. Don’t you worry (with lyrics)

98. The healer is here (with lyrics)

As I have looked on the internet, there so many Don Fosters. Some are singers, some politicians, some artists, some TV producers, and some are into scuba diving, etc. This Don Foster, has done many things, but for the purposes of this website, I am focusing on singing, songwriting, art, music and religion. I have been in many countries, but have lived in England, Rhodesia, South Africa, and Canada.

Some years back when we were in South Africa, we went to visit the site where the Foster Gang had their final shoot-out with the police. It was very exciting. They were like the Bonnie and Clyde of America. By the way, Rhodesia is now called Zimbabwe.

I also have a gospel site: http://countrygospelandbible.com/

Favorite Love Songs by Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash sings some of my favorite love songs. Maybe you’ll like some of them.

1. The ways of a woman in love

Many years ago someone gave me tape of Johnny Cash’s songs, and it was so nice. This is one of the songs I remember.

2. I guess things happen that way

I first heard this song by Jim Reeves on his “live” recording..

3. I walk the line – “live” medley of 5 songs

I first heard this one by Connie Francis.

4. You are my sunshine

An oldie, but a goodie. I like the way June Carter harmonizes with him.

5. My Favorite Love Song by Johnny Cash – You’re the nearest thing to heaven

To me, this is one of the all time great love songs. Just listen to the words, they are so tremendous.

6. Ballad of a teenage queen

I have just finished reading a book about Elvis called “Are you lonesome tonight?” and he told his girlfriend he was not happy. Fame and success doesn’t always make a person happy. We each need true love.

7. A thing called love

This is one of my all time favorite love songs by Johnny Cash. I remember when I bought the record, I saw a sign saying it was number one in Britain at the time.

8. Jackson

I have the record of them singing this one in Folsom Prison. We visited the place back in 1976.

Johnny Cash Variety Songs

Johnny Cash sings a wide varierty of songs, but I would like to start with one of my favorite love songs.

1. Give my love to Rose

This song always touches my heart about how he wants to get to know his son. I have the record of him singing in Folsom Prison.

2. Route 1, Box 144

I heard this song back in about 1977, and I`ve always kept thinking about it. It is so nice to find it now on the You Tube.

3. Daddy

The same goes for this song. Thank you You Tube.

4. Oney – A Johnny Cash Variety Song

Here is an example of the type of variety of songs that Johnny Cash sang. Problems in the work place, that are very real.

5. No Charge

When I first heard this song in about 1980, it made an impression on me. Love is more important than money.

6. Tennessee flat top box

I first heard this song on a TV tribute show for Johnny Cash, and loved it.

7. Mississippi Sand

I am so glad to find this song on the You Tube. I heard it back in the seventies, and was shocked at the words. He relieved him of his pocket book, his blood and other things. His girlfriend was a rose just ripe for picking, and he nipped her in the bud.

8. I`ve got a thing about trains

I have always loved this one. My son rode on a train with me when he was little.

9. Orange Blossom Special

I have the Folsom recording.

10. Man in black

He had a bad experience with his brother dying. Maybe that is why he sings the blues.

Jim Reeves sings Sad Love Songs

Jim Reeves sings some of my favorite love songs that have a sad edge to them. In reality, things don’t always go the way we want them to go. When I was young I had a break up with a girlfriend, and used to sing a lot of these type of songs. One time when my Dad heard me singing he said: “Where does it hurt the most?” I guess he never experienced a broken heart.

1. You’ll never be mine again

What this songs means to me is too personal to share, but it was so very real to me at the time.

2. I won’t come in while he’s there

I think this was a hit after he passed away. Jim portrays a man who is mild, and easily hurt, in many of his songs. His personality kind of suited me.

3. Not until the next time

I have had some girlfriends who were dating other guys at the same time, so I can relate to this type of song.

4. Stand at your window

When I was a teenager, I used to go for walks on the streets at night and sing this song to myself. I was so lonely.

5. When you are gone

“When you are gone, there’s no fun with the crowd.” Those words are so true.

6. After loving you

Each person is different, and leave different memories.

7. Just out of reach

I sometimes wonder what Jim Reeves’ wife thought of him singing all these heavy love songs, and I wonder how many girlfriends he had before he got married.

8. A letter to my heart- Jim Reeves sings sad love songs

When I sang in public, I used to sing lots of happy songs, and was smiling all the time, but on my own I used to sing songs like this to myself, and get really sad and blue. Other people didn’t really know what I was like on the inside.

9. Am I that easy to forget

Each person is special in their own particular way. I cannot forget any of the people in my life.

10. There’s a heartache following me

“I look around, and there’s a heartache following me.” I heard a song on the radio recently that said: “Looking for love in all the wrong places.” I guess that was part of my problem.

11. I missed me

I had a live recording of Jim Reeves singing a part of this song. Doing this on my website got me hearing the rest of the song.

12. Is it really over

I am so glad I am married now, and not going through all those heartaches I went through before.

13. Missing you

Another one of Jim Reeves’ sad love songs. One is a lonely number.

14. You kept me awake last night

For the past few years, I haven’t been able to sleep at night.

15. When I lost you

Read the story below the song, about the guy’s wife dying.

16. Letter edged in black

I used to sing this one when I was a teenager, and I could always visualize the postman coming up the driveway. The heartache regarding my parents is so real as well.

17. How can I write on paper (what I feel in my heart)

Sometimes it is so hard to express what you really feel, that is why it is easier to sing a song about it.

18. There’s a new moon over my shoulder

When I heard this song when I was young, I wished I could make beautiful music like this.

19. Adios Amigo

This is the very first song I heard by Gentleman JR. I have chosen this one with the pictures of the fields, because this is more like the way I feel it. I remember being in another country, and driving out of town, looking over the fields and singing this lovely song, and it gave me that lonesome feeling.

20. There’s that smile again

Here’s a number I had never heard before, but it looked interesting. Very interesting. What a lovely one.

I also have a country gospel site: Country Gospel and Bible

Jim Reeves sings Afrikaans songs

I would like to invite you to listen to Jim Reeves as he sings some favorite Afrikaans love songs. He was very popular in Southern Africa, and most of his million selling records were sold there. About 17 million.

This is about living in the bushveld, where there is peace and rest.

2. Sarie Marais

3. Jy is my liefling – You are my love

Here he sings it in English too, although it is not quite the same words.

4. Geboorteplasie

This is about a guy longing to go back to the farm where he was born. I have noticed on the internet, that a lot of farmers are being killed in South Africa. Someone told me, that since Mandela took over, over 50,000 white people have been killed in South Africa.

5. Die blonde matroos (The blond sailor)

The words listed are not the same as what Jim Reeves is singing!

6. Verre Land

A person longing to go back to the far away land, where everything is nice, with the sun shining, and the waves crashing in the sea.

7. Draf maar aan ou ryperd

Plod along old horse, let’s go back to the farm where we can feel relaxed. The people in the city don’t speak our language.

8. Net ‘n stille uurtjie

He wants to spend a nice quiet hour with his girl.

9. In die skadu van ou Tafelberg

There is something very majestic about Table Mountain in Cape Town.

10. My blinde hart

They say love is blind, and his guys heart is blinded by love.

11. Ek velang na jou

I long for you. Jim sings some English words too.

12. Jim Reeves sings an Afrikaans song – Ding dong

People have told me, that in the old days, when a guy went to visit a girl, that there would be a candle burning, and when it was finished burning, it was time for him to leave.

13. The old Kalahari and True

Here Jim Reeves sings partly in Afrikaans, and partly in English.

14. Nooientjie van die ou Transvaal

A guy is longing for his girlfriend who lives in the Transvaal province.

15. Bolandse nooientjie

The Boland is the high country east of Cape Town. We were in a snow storm once in Ceres.

I also have a gospel site where Jim Reeves sings gospel songs, and South African singers sing gospel songs in the Afrikaans language. Visit us at: countrygospelandbible.com

Jim Reeves songs of faith

I feel that Jim Reeves sings songs of faith with so much sincerity. Some of the old hymns feel so much nicer the way he sings them, compared with the way I have heard them in church.

1.  Old time religion

We used to sing this one a lot when we were kids.

2. Beyond the clouds

I only heard this song as I was doing this web page, but it feels real good. I hope Mr. Reeves made it through the pearly gates. The person who loaded this one did a real good job with the art. Such lovely pictures.

3. The farmer and the Lord

Recently there has been a tremendous drought across the USA, and it makes me wonder about the laws of God. In the scriptures, God says that every seventh year, the ground it suppoed to be left alone to rest, but I don’t think anybody obeys the laws of God. I think Jim does this song so nice.

4. Across the bridge

This song had so much meaning to me when I was young.

5. Trouble in amen corner

One man told me that my singing was not worth listening to, and it hurt me real bad. Maybe God likes my singing, I don’t know. Thinking about it, I did sell a few thousand records, so maybe some people did like my singing.

6. Have Thine own way Lord

To me, Jim Reeves sings this song of faith with way more sincerity than I have heard it in any church.

7. The flowers, the sunset, the trees

I love the sunsets. God used to talk to Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening.

8. In the garden

I met a preacher once, who claimed that Jim was anti church because of the song “My Cathedral.” Later on, thinking about it, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Did that make Jesus anti church? Some people have weird ideas.

9. Teach me how to pray

When I hear this song, my mind goes back to when I was a kid, and the house we were living in, and my parents bedroom. To me, songs paint pictures in my mind.

10. Jim Reeves songs of faith – A beautiful life

Let us try and help one another. So many people have helped me in my life. Thank you very much.

11. May the good Lord bless and keep you

Beloved, I wish above all things, that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. That is one of my favorite Bible verses.

12. I’d rather have Jesus

This song was written by George Beverly Shea, who used to sing at the Billy Graham meetings.

I also have a Gospel web site. If you want to check it out, go to:  http://countrygospelandbible.com/

Jim Reeves variety of songs

Jim Reeves sang a variety of songs about lots of different subjects, like: children, trains, gambling, blizzards, etc. So I would like to share some of my favorites with you.

1. Old Tige

This one of my favorite love songs about a dog. When I get near the end of this song, I get chills all over my body. Our friend Tony takes care of stray cats, and here is his link: http://www.feralcatsofwelland.com/past_events.html

2. Silver haired Daddy of mine

This is such a lovely song about a Dad. Written by Gene Autry. My Dad was the other side of the world when he died, and I wasn’t able to see him.

3. Railroad bum

I loved this song when I was young. Such beautiful music. I’ve also been in the Silver Dollar in Reno. Won a little bit of money there.

4. Waiting for a train

So much fun being on a train. Lots of memories for me.

5. Fools Paradise

This one brings back so many memories. He said he heard it on an old Tex Ritter movie.

6. White cliffs of Dover

This song is about the Second World War.

7. The Blizzard

Cold weather is a big problem in North America. You gotta be prepared for the worst, or you could be dead. Jim Reeves really does sing a wide variety of songs.

8. Mexican Joe

This was the very first song I sang on TV when I was a kid. I have never been in Mexico, but it felt like a swinging experience.

9. Wreck of the Number Nine

When Jim Reeves died, the radio station played a program of songs in his honour, and this was one of the numbers. It is so sad. This is reality though. Where I lived, the station master made a mistake, and sent out a train, when there was another coming in on that track, and they met head on.

10. Bimbo

On one live recording he says: “I always break a string on Bimbo.”

11. Penny Candy by Johnny Hamblyn

I couldn’t find Jim’s version on the you tube, so I have put in this one.

12. But you love me Daddy

I first heard this one while waiting for a train. It seems so sad that he didn’t have any children of his own. His own Dad died when he was little.

13. Too many parties and too many pals

This is very thought provoking.

14. Distant drums – Jim Reeves variety of songs

I have put this one here instead of by the favorite love songs because it makes me think of when I was in the military. This was a big hit after his death. I think it was number one in the U.K.

15. J.R. on Stage – side one

I had this record when I was young, and loved it very much. I love the way he takes off other country singers.

16. J.R. on stage – side two

When we were in Nashville we were able to see his bus “Big Blue” that was on the back of the record.

17. The 46th anniversary of his passing

I just came across this today (January 20.2014) and enjoyed this nice glimpse of my favorite country singer.

18. Personal Favourites – early years – 50’s

Hi. I just found this one today too. What I thought was so interesting was, seeing Jim and Elvis in the same photo. I always wondered if they knew each other.

19. Cindy Walker talks about her song “Distant Drums” and how J.R. made a demo for her

A very interesting story behind one of his biggest hits.

20. His wife Mary talks about his million sellers

He had 33 gold records in South Africa. When I was a kid in Rhodesia, he was as “big” as Elvis.

21. He talks about being mobbed at the airport near Johannesburg and the film “Kimberley Jim”

We have a copy of the film that we bought at his museum in Nashville.

22. Country singers talk about his drinking and his fighting

Hank Locklin tells an interesting story about how Jim was driving home in a storm, and he saw a man holding up his hand as a stop sign. He stopped, but he saw no man, but then he saw the bridge was down. I believe that must have been an angel warning him and sparing his life on that occasion.

23. His manager shares some secrets

Some interesting facts.

24. The plane crash

A lot of things I didn’t know. It was such a shock when I heard of his death. To me, he was like a father image. His songs were like a father giving advice to his son.

25. Some ‘live’ concerts

He came to Bulawayo, but I didn’t see him.

26. J.R. interview in Europe with museum pictures

As he is talking and singing, you can view the museum.

27. Mary showing the museum part 1

It brings back memories from 1983 when I went there.

28. Mary showing the museum part 2

She has an Elvis jump suit.

29. Mary showing the museum part 3

I took my family there in about 1995, and showed them “Big Blue.”

30. Mary Reeves – A lifetime with Jim

She writes about her happy life with her husband.

31. Mary’s voice – She talks to Larry Jordan – Author of  “His Untold Story”

Apparently some people doubt that Larry knew Mary, so he recorded her telephone conversations.

Favorite love songs by Jim Reeves

scan0002.fixed.crop4.JPEG

Jim Reeves sings quite a few of my favorite love songs. About 50 years ago I was a big fan of his, and sang about 50 of his songs.

1. I won’t forget you

This song runs through my mind all the time.

2. You’re the only good thing that’s happened to me

We have our ups and downs, like all lovers do, but you know in your heart, that I adore you. (I sometimes change the words of songs to suit myself).

3. A new moon over my shoulder

When I was young, I thought that the music in this song was the best ever.

4. I love you because

I think this is one of the best love songs ever. Jim Reeves singing, with beautiful pictures is tops in my book.

5. In the misty moonlight – Jim Reeves favorite love song

I love the talking part. It has so much meaning.

6. I’ve enjoyed as much of this as I can stand

You look lovelier tonight than I remember.

7. Don’t let me cross over

This was a big hit for him.

8. Blue skies

Such a beautiful song.

9. Why do I love you?

I never actually sang this song, but it has always been in the back of my mind.

10. The search is ended

Finding someone to love is one of the biggest searches ever.

11. Four walls

I always related to this song because I am a bit laid back, and not an agressive sort of person, (unless I get provoked).

12. Welcome to my world

I love the lush violin type music on this one.

13. Have I told you lately that I love you?

This is also one of the standard top love songs ever.

14. Till the end of the world

This one takes me right back to a friend’s house where I heard it.

15. Waltzing on top of the world

This is romance!

16. I guess I’m crazy

Love is crazy and irrational.

17. Moonlight and roses

A friend lent me this LP when I was young.

18. Mexican Joe “live”

It looks like Jim Reeves is with Tex Ritter. This song is the first song I sang on TV when I was a teenager.

19. Yonder comes a sucker “live”

I think he wrote this one, so he wasn’t always crying over lost love!

20. He’ll have to go

I think this was his biggest hit.

21. Adios Amigo

A loser song, but a good one.

22. Maria Elena

Lots of memories with this one.

23. Your old love letters

After a break up with a girlfriend, this song got me into country singing.

24. I’d like to be

This song takes me right back to where we were living when I was a teenager.

25. Rosa Rio

The other night I lay in bed singing this song. I still know all the words!

26. My happiness

Here is another lovely old time love song.

27. My hands are clean

I just found this song the other day. He sings it so nicely.

The Beatles

The Beatles sing some of my favourite love songs. I enjoy seeing them perform “live,” so I have got some links to their “live” concerts.

1. The Beatles and Larry KIng (part 3)

The other day I was looking through some old videos, and I came across Larry King talking to Paul and Ringo, and it did something for me. It was so nice hearing them chat about things.

2. Larry King (part 4)

On this section, Larry asks them why they are still playing when they don’t need the money. They point out that they enjoy singing and playing, that’s what they do. That helped me a lot. Everybody’s gotta do what they enjoy doing.

3. In Japan 1966

This is one of their nicest recordings in full color. Paul just had a little trouble with the microphone turning all the time. About 30 minutes.

4. Arriving in America 1964

Ringo talks about this with Larry King.

5. Washington USA 1964

This is in black and white. I am shocked that they don’t have a boom mike for Ringo. There are some problems with the mike sound too. It is interesting to see how the Beatles handle the problems.

6. Melbourne Australia (part 1)

These are nice recordings in black and white.

7. Melbourne (part 2)

The middle of the show.

8. Melbourne (part 3)

I find it exciting to see the exciement of the crowd.

9. Liverpool 1963

This is a TV show done in a theatre. The Beatles really get these girls excited.
